A Quiet Spring Hike to Packwood Lake

The path to Packwood Lake is well trodden indeed. However, in spring the winding woodland trail to
this forest gem is a quiet and lonely journey. A taste of the mountains when the high country is blanketed in snow.

Glimpses through the canopy to snow frosted peaks contrasted with the delicate greenery of early spring - vine maples just budded out with their summer foliage.Little waterfalls burbled in the secret gully, flowing gracefully cross the broad and gentle track. Glimpses through the trees fleetingly revealed the forest coated slopes and craggy peaks around us.

Pleasant though the forest was, the sudden appearance of the lake was a welcome sight. The wind flecked surface interrupted by an island crowned with soaring ancient trees, their lofty crowns reaching up towards the towering summit of Johnson Peak, the flanks of which sweep down to envelop the lake in a motherly embrace.

After a peaceful lunch in this beautiful place we made our way back to a trailhead as empty as when we had first arrived.
