Peshastin Pinnacles

Peshastin Pinnacles rise majestically over the verdant videyards of the Wenatchee Valley. Erosion is slowly revealing these massive sandstone formations from the grassy foothills of the snow capped Cascade Mountains. Though popular mostly with climbers, the pinnacles are also a great spot for hiking and bird watching, as many avian species flit and wheel around the twisted spires.

Unfortunately, an ugly power line crosses through middle of the rocks. It passes uncomfortably close overhead to the trails, and there is even a warning to stay clear of the lines in high winds. A further unfortunate detail is the poor state of the trail system. The many switchbacks have been badly eroded by inconsiderate travelers cutting between them, and this has destabilized the tread on a hazardously vertiginous slope.

Despite these  degradations, Peshastin Pinnacles is still an amazing place with plenty of interesting trails on which to seek out interesting nooks and crannies amongst the ancient hoodoos.

Climbers have made a valiant effort to save this precariously
perched tree, it's incredibly how these bonsai-esque  pines have
sprouted from the sheer sandstone cliffs!
