Jousting and Jets

Photograph Jousting by Andy Zahn on 500px

What's better than a renaissance fair packed with acrobats, magicians, falconry and overpriced food? Having an airshow going on overhead at the same time! It may not have been the greatest day for the performers; if an act grew boring everyone's eyes would begin drifting skyward to watch the incredible stunts performed above.

The most unusual sight was the performer in the photo below. It was more than worth the price of admission to watch this guy play these bagpipes, which jetted flame, while riding a unicycle!

The Travelling Carillon (pictured above) is one of only a few in the whole world. It weighs 8 tons and could be heard easily from anywhere at the fair.

This stunt was especially awesome; the parachutist jumped out of the biplane trailing red smoke, and the biplane followed him down in a spiral while trailing white smoke.

Before the jousting they had a falconry show which included several beautiful birds of prey:

Just before we left there was a huge explosion from the airfield, but it was not one of the stunt planes exploding; the explosion rose into an ascending ring of black smoke through which this plane flew. A great finale to the day.
